Patron of Tze Hng Wellness Studio: Mr Yeo Guat Kwang, MP for Ang Mo Kio GRC
|
The positive dimension of mental health is stressed in WHO's definition of health as contained in its constitution: "Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity."
Mental health promotion is an umbrella term that covers a variety of strategies, all aimed at having a positive effect on mental health. The encouragement of individual resources and skills and improvements in the socio-economic environment are among them.
In conjunction with World Mental Health Day 2007, Ang Mo Kio-Hougang CCC and Silver Ribbon (Singapore) launched Tze Hng Wellness Studio, a joint community project which is the first of its kind in Singapore to promote positive living on 28 Oct 2007. This project is supported by VCF Pilot Project Grant by National Council of Social Service. Since launched, we have offered assistance to hundreds residents. In addition, we have received local and oversea guests from countries such as United States, India, Korea and Malaysia.
This wellness studio comprises of 5 components. They are: Employment Resource Centre (ERC), Complimentary Counselling Service (CCS), Training Centre (TC), Activity Centre (AC), and a library.
Complimentary Counselling Service (CCS)
The consequences of untreated mental illness could be shattering, leading to unnecessary disability, homelessness, unemployment, incarceration and even suicide. To combat mental health stigma and encourage early treatment, CCS offers complimentary basic counseling sessions for the residents via appointment at 6386 1928 or info@silverribbonsingapore.com.
For urgent cases, please seek help from hospitals or police.

Computers for online job search

Work Care Agent for job placement
|
The ERC provides the residents with assistance in the process of job application. Many residents often do not have such job-seeking necessities such as internet access, newspapers, and computers, therefore the ERC offers access to all these communications tools. In addition, we are collaborating with Work Care Agent to provide job placement. Please contact them at 6100-0936 on job request and status of your application.
Training Centre (TC)
This wellness studio would serve as a training centre for recovered patients with mental illness.By receiving training in this centre, it gives an opportunity to the recovered patients to meet people and interact with them, breaking social isolation. It helps build self-esteem and self-respect. It gives structure to the day and the week. It makes leisure time more meaningful. And it is a distraction from illness.
These recovered patients could assist with the day-to-day administrative needs of the Wellness Studio such as typing, filing, photocopying, as well as ensuring that activity and job-related information boards are kept current. They would receive a certificate of participation upon the completion of the training programme.
Library
Reading materials on different types of illnesses and coping skills would be displayed to enrich residents’ health literacy.
Activity Centre (AC)
As there are indications that there might be a correlation between certain physical illnesses and depression, we would be organizing talks and activities for the residents.
