World Mental Health Day
Silver Ribbon (Singapore) is a proud affiliated member organization of World Federation for Mental Health WFMH) www.wfmh.org.
Richard C. Hunter, Deputy Secretary General of WFMH from 1983 through 2002, envisioned world mental health day as a global and unified effort to promote greater public awareness and understanding of mental health and mental illness.
His dream continues to be realized each year on October 10 or in the month of October. Now, World Mental Health Day is celebrated annually in over 100 countries. Each year we become more excited to see the ever increasing number and effort that is put into educating, promoting and changing the world’s image of mental illness. No matter how large or small, each event raises awareness which eventually leads to a more educated public.
Silver Ribbon (Singapore) organizes at least 2 mental health events monthly to combat mental health stigma and encourage early treatment. In addition, we have organized, or co-organised, or participated in the following events to commemorate World Mental Health Day in the month of October:-

World Mental Health Day 2012 @ Jurong Regional Library included a series of events by Silver Ribbon (Singapore) and its partners - Stamp Out Stigma Art Exhibition, Burst the Silence Photo Exhibition, Beyond the Naked Eye Mobile Art Exhibition, Picture My World; A Photography Exhibition.

Community Mental Wellness Carnival, a joint event with Geylang Serai CCC, reached out to over 600 residents with a list of events such as mental health talks by local and overseas speakers, performances, booth exhibition, etc.

The Great Via Ferrata Wall Challenge with the theme “Hang On There” (H.O.T) was co-organised by Silver Ribbon (Singapore), Mediacorp, and Orchard Central at the world tallest indoor ferrata wall at Orchard Central.

Asia Exposed 2, a documentary, which featured on mental health issues, was screened.
1 - 31 Oct
Celebrating NLB-SRS Partnership - 23 libraries commemorated World Mental Health Day by setting up a WMHD corner to display books on mental health issues and inviting readers to vote for the branch where their favourite corner was located.
2 Oct
WMHD Mental Wellness Carnival involved 1200 participants of different backgrounds to join the record breaking silver ribbon human chain formation. Other event highlights included Presentation of Silver Ribbon Champion of Mental Health Award, booth exhibitions by mental health organisations, caregivers, and consumers, performances.

Silver Ribbon Human Chain Formation where we involved 2 members of parliament, consumers, caregivers, students, staffs of mental health organisations, members of public. This event was co-organised by Geylang Serai CCC.

The Great Via Ferrata Wall Challenge where we involved more than 20 popular artistes and radio DJs. This event was co-organised by Orchard Central.

Be Positive where we updated the community on mental health issues at Marina Square. This event was hosted by Health Promotion Board.
